Call for Applications // YEM Model European Union 2017: The Council

Dear Young Europeans,

A while ago we asked our members to register their interest in our upcoming Model European Union (MEU) simulation and Annual General Meeting. Today, we are delighted to open the official registration for the event!

Set in the charming city of Bristol, the MEU will be discussing EU policy on health and the environment, and will take place between Friday the 27th of October and Sunday the 29th of October. Kick-off will be at noon, followed by lunch and the opening ceremony. It is recommended that participants at the MEU are available by this time. However, we will of course accommodate for people who cannot arrive until the evening. The event will finish around 2pm on Sunday.

The weekend will be packed with social activities and chances to meet fellow pro-Europeans. It is therefore an event not to be missed if you want to get more involved with the Young European Movement and the Young European Federalists (JEF). A detailed programme including the times of the sessions and meals will be forwarded to participants in due time.

For those of you who are unsure what an MEU is, it is a simulation of the European Union where the participants in the form of EU institutions – at our event, the Council of Ministers – will debate draft legislation following the principles of the ordinary legislative procedure. There will be an introduction to the simulation process for all those who are new to the simulation framework or need to freshen up on the basics. The MEU simulation will take up most of the weekend, and will be opened and closed by guest speakers. Further information about our MEU format, as well as a draft schedule for the weekend, can be found at:

The participation fee is set at £100, and will cover accommodation at the Bristol YHA, lunch and dinner on Friday, all meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. If you do not need accommodation, the participation fee is £60. This includes all the meals.

The application deadline is 6pm UK time, Sunday the 20th of August. You will then hear back from us whether your application has been successful within a week and receive payment instructions. After receiving a notification of your acceptance, you will be requested to pay the participation fee within a week.

Please note: This is the registration for the whole weekend only. We will open the registration for those who are only interested in the AGM on the Saturday in due time. It is not a requirement to participate at the MEU to run for a position on the National Board, although this is highly recommended.

We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Bristol!
