Notes from National Board Meeting 30th April 2017

This week’s YEM UK Meeting as ever covered a lot of ground! Chris our Europe at School Coordinator has completed an application for funding for a planned Model European Union event that we are hoping to hold in Bristol in October. And the meeting also signalled the closing of applications for those interested in being co-opted onto the team. We hope to be able to confirm in the next few days and announce the addition of a new Treasurer, International Officer, Campaigns Officer and a third Local Branches Officer who will help us manage our huge growth!

The European Movement in collaboration with Open Britain and others has compiled the much-talked about 20/20 list of MPs to campaign with in the run up to the General Election. The idea is to support 20 Remain MPs across the country to keep their seat, and to unseat 20 Leave MPs. The list was made with the intention of representing all political parties, and agreement of each MP/candidate was secured before adding them to the list. It is up to individual YEM branches how much or little use of this they make but either way you have our support!

We also wanted to shine a light on those who are planning activities for Europe Day! Congrats to YEM Cambridge, London, and Canterbury on their plans to build coalitions of branches across Europe to celebrate together. If any of you want to get in on this, YEM UK is giving away small microgrants to help cover the cost – get in touch with your Local Branches Officers!

As we enter exams and many of our members are students, we just want to wish you all the best of luck! Remember, it is better to revise small bits often than cram everything! If you want to take your mind off it a while and chat about YEM, or Europe generally, the National Board is happy to hear from you – do get in touch!

Other than that we just wanted to leave you with a few key dates for your diary over the next couple of months:

  • 13th May – Eurovision Final
