The Wee Tale of YEM Edinburgh

Today begins the establishment of a new Young European Movement branch in the  Scottish capital of Edinburgh.

Scotland and its capital has for a long time been a stronghold for pro-EU sentiment,  especially amongst its young people and students. However, with the upcoming  referendum on Brexit, a group of students at Edinburgh University decided to  establish a YES2EU Edinburgh Campaign.

Fearing that a strong support network was not available, the group were given the  option of whether they would like to become a branch of the Young European  Movement.

A poll was put together running from the 6th to the 8th asking whether members wanted to remain independent or become a YEM Branch. 93% of members voted for YEM Branch status.

So what now?

Well, a constitution is being drafted right this minute to include YEM Principles. Meanwhile, recruitment will begin, and the branch will try to reach out to other young people across Edinburgh before the final draft of the constitution is put to a vote.

Then board elections begin.

We hope to be fully up and running by September so that we can start the academic year with our first and hardest mission: to mobilise the pro-Europeans of Edinburgh and make sure that the people of Scotland and the young people of the UK aren’t ripped out of the European Union against our will.

Please wish us good luck, we look forward to working with the YEM and JEF family.
